Disaster and Recovery at LCF

Preschool - May 1On May 1 and 2, 2010, parts of Lighthouse property were flooded as the waters of Mill Creek rose well above flood levels due to heavy rains. Several of our buildings were partially to completely flooded, including the Hope Building, which was seen on local and national news floating down Interstate 24.  It appears that the total damage will amount to approximately $400,000, with the majority of the damage being at the Preschool.

The cleanup process began immediately.  Our first priority for clean-up on our property was the Preschool, which serves a vital role in our community.  The entire first floor was flooded up to the ceiling.  Antioch First Baptist Church, which is located across the street from the Preschool, has allowed us to use their newly remodeled facilities as we rebuild and recover.

We also want to care for the international pastors who had offices in the Hope Building, and to provide a new place for their offices.  We want to ensure that they can continue to effectively serve the diverse community of Antioch.

On September 10, 2010, ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, along with many local businesses such as Hardaway Construction and LP Building Products, arrived at LCS to rebuild our Preschool building! After only one week, we were blessed with a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility!
