What is a life group?
Life groups are small groups of 6 to 12 adults who live life together in gospel community. They focus on developing and experiencing their relationships to God (reaching upward), other believers (reaching inward), and nonbelievers (reaching outward). Life groups gather weekly for fellowship, study, service, and prayer. However, life groups are much more than a weekly meeting! We encourage life group members to gather and live ordinary life together outside of the weekly meetings. Life groups are for adults of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity.
Why does Lighthouse Christian Fellowship do life groups?
God designed His people to live in three vital relationships: their relationship to God (reaching upward), relationship to other believers (reaching inward), and relationship to nonbelievers (reaching outward). Life in gospel community is the context for developing and experiencing these three vital relationships. These relationships can be lived out fully and meaningfully in smaller, more intimate groups. While our Sunday morning gatherings are very valuable, people can still remain isolated or anonymous in such a large group, and thus miss out on the full Christian life as God designed it. (Click here to read more on these three vital relationships.)
When do life groups meet?
Life groups at LCF meet once weekly. Generally, they meet on Sunday through Thursday nights. Some life groups have their regular meetings three weeks a month, leaving the fourth week for a group service opportunity.
Where do life groups meet?
Most life groups at LCF currently meet in group members’ homes. Some groups meet consistently in one home, while others choose to take turns meeting in different members’ homes.
What should I expect at a typical life group meeting?
Each life group is unique. Thus each group’s meetings will be a little different. In general, meetings are one-and-a-half to two hours long. They often start with a social time, transition into a group study and discussion time, and end in prayer. Many groups share a meal together. Meals are often done potluck style, in which everyone brings something to share.
Are children welcome at life group meetings?
Children are welcome in life group meetings. Each group determines what their childcare needs are and how to best handle them. Some of the groups provide childcare for part of the meeting, while other groups have children remain with their parents for the entire meeting.
What do groups study?
All groups are asked to discuss the Sunday morning messages during part of the life group meeting. Some groups do an additional study on a specific topic or a book of the Bible.
How do I choose a life group?
Because life groups reach out to their surrounding neighborhoods, we encourage you to choose a life group that meets near your home. You will also want to choose a group that meets on a night that you are available. Click here to see a list of all the life groups at LCF. If you’re still not sure about which group you should join, feel free to contact us. We’d love to help you find a group!
How do I get connected to a life group?
If you already know which life group you would like to join, you can contact the life group leader or a group member directly. You can also contact David Kaufmann, the Life Groups Pastor at LCF, who would be happy to help you connect to a group.
