Life Groups: Leadership Training Materials
Life group leaders, apprentice leaders, and life group coaches meet and attend training sessions on a regular basis. The purpose of these meetings and training sessions is to equip and encourage leaders, as well as to cast vision and provide accountability. Leaders, apprentice leaders, and coaches can find materials from these meetings here, in addition to some other resources that will help in leading their groups even more effectively
Previous Training Resources:
Outgrowing the Ingrown Church
In 2010, life group leaders studied the book, Outgrowing the Ingrown Church, by C. John Miller. In this book, the author presents concepts and ideas to help church leaders “break free of the things that turn [churches] in on themselves and keep them from being outward-looking and outward-moving communities of Jesus Christ.”
Key Points and Discussion:
Chapters One and Two
Chapters Three and Four
Total Church
“Church is not a meeting you attend or a place you enter,” write pastors Tim Chester and Steve Timmis. “It’s an identity that is ours in Christ. An identity that shapes the whole of life so that life and mission become ‘total church.’” With that as their premise, they emphasize two overarching principles to govern the practice of church and mission: being gospel-centered and being community-centered. When these principles take precedence, say the authors, the truth of the Word is upheld, the mission of the gospel is carried out, and the priority of relationships is practiced in radical ways. The church becomes not just another commitment to juggle but a 24/7 lifestyle where programs, big events, and teaching from one person take a backseat to sharing lives, reaching out, and learning about God together. In 2009 and 2010, life group leaders studied the book Total Church and discussed implementing it in each of their groups.
